Dutch delight for Rotherham students

Tulips will be just one of the sights on offer for a group of Rotherham students when they visit Amsterdam on a five-day study tour next week.

The 40 art, design and photography students will be visiting the city’s Tulip Museum as well as many of Amsterdam’s better-known attractions such as the Van Gogh Museum, Rembrandt House, the Rijksmuseum and the Anne Frank House.

All the students will be provided with the Amsterdam museum pass - which gets them in free to the city’s 50 museums – thanks to sponsorship from Howells solicitors, whose Rotherham office is based on Effingham Street.

The contribution to the trip is part of an ongoing relationship between the solicitors and Rotherham College of Arts and Technology – a relationship which includes support for the students’ annual show and an annual design project for students on the National Diploma in Graphic Design. Photographs taken by students on the photography National Diploma are currently on display in the reception area of Howells’ Rotherham office.

“The support we get from Howells is invaluable,” said Gwen Plant, Curriculum Manager for Art and Design at the college. “Naturally, financial support is very helpful in enabling us to organise extra-curricular activities such as the trip to Amsterdam, but the chance for our students to work on real life projects for professional organisations is also an important part of the experience we offer, so it’s great that every year Howells come up with something new for our students to tackle.”

Mary Rose Macadam, who heads up Howells’ Rotherham office, said she was delighted to be able to support the students’ trip.
“We know from working with the college over the last few years how important these opportunities are for the students and it’s great that we can help. We’ve been working with the college for several years now, and we’ve had real benefits from it – not least the stunning black and white photography of Rotherham currently on display in our reception!”
