Fighting fit for legal advice!
Two of Sheffield’s best known names have teamed up in a partnership that will make them fighting fit for getting legal advice to those that need it.
Howells LLP – who celebrated their 30th birthday this year – and the Wincobank gym, founded by Brendan Ingle, MBE, almost 50 years ago are putting their eighty years’ of experience together to make sure that those who use the gym are aware of the wide range of legal support available to them.
“We know that many people in Sheffield are aware of our expertise in criminal law, but maybe not everyone knows about all the other ways we can help – with family issues, for example, or debt, welfare benefits, housing and employment,” said Howells’ Managing Partner, John McSweeney.
“We know from experience that often people who are having problems with one area of their lives can often get into other difficulties – for example, if you lose your job, you can often then have problems with housing, debt and even family issues – so what we want to do is make people aware of the wide range of services we offer and that the sooner they get help, the better.”
The law firm are contributing £1000 to the gym which will be invested in the development of a community website. Postcards outlining the firm’s legal services will be displayed at the gym and there are also plans for a legal advice drop-in service.
The Wincobank Gym has become established as a focal point for the local community and many young people who have been at risk of getting into a life of crime have benefited from Brendan and his team’s tireless efforts to use the skills, stamina and determination they gain from boxing training to turn their lives around.
“We are delighted that Howells have made this contribution to help us get our website up and running,” said Brendan. “Our two organisations share many values – we both believe that people should be given the chance to make the most of their lives and that they should have access to top quality professional support and advice, regardless of their ability to pay.
